Whether you’re off the bandwagon completely, or need to step it up a notch for summer, these tips are for you! No more hiding under those winter clothes, the sun has finally arrived. Kick off those ugg boots, dust off the flip flops, get your clippers out or make an emergency hair removal appointment with the beautician. It’s time to get cracking.
Tip 1: Check it in
Assess your situation, your ground zero. Are you looking at a total health and fitness regime overhaul, or a few tweaks here and there? Whatever it is, work out what you need and create a plan or some goals. Like the old cliché goes, fail to plan, plan to fail.
Tip 2: Get a training buddy
Get a buddy or ten, and make your exercise regime fun and social. Exercise doesn’t need to feel like a chore! Gym buddies will motivate you and help keep you on track. If someone you know needs a gentle nudge, reach out and give them a hand. At ONEfhl, we are a community that embraces fit and healthy living, we are part of a team.
Tip 3: Examine your ‘big three’
Diet, exercise and lifestyle. Where are you at in these three fundamental areas? If you’re not sure, here are a few things you can consider. Work on reaching an 80/20 ratio of clean eating for a balanced diet that you won’t cheat on after a day. In terms of lifestyle, are you stress free and getting enough sleep? You need to build a plan and start paving your way to a healthier and happier you.
Tip 4: Try something new
There are so many options with exercise these days so why not try something new. With so much diversity and variety in the health and fitness industry, you’ll be able to find something that suits you. Most importantly, you’ll find something you can really enjoy.
Tip 5: Be kind to yourself
Don’t be discouraged or critical of yourself if you don’t see results straight away. Always be kind to yourself during your fitness journey. Don’t compare yourself to anyone, we’re all at different stages and we’re all completely different people. Find everyting that is unique to you and just embrace it! Try not to say anything to yourself that you wouldn’t say to your best friend.
Tip 6: Start small, and be realistic
Don’t overwhelm yourself with too much too soon. Just begin with small commitments. It may be as simple as a walk around the block or some stretching. Or even just trying to make healthier choices if you are out socialising with friends. You don’t need to miss out on things to stay committed to your goals.
Tip 7: Measure your progress
Whether it be a strength and physical fitness test with your trainer, a body composition test with your nutritionist or your naturopath, a fitbit or heart rate monitor, the dirty old scales, or maybe even your favourite pair of skinny leg jeans. Use something to keep track of your progress, but remember, don’t let numbers drag you down!
